The Anesthesia department is a very important crosscutting department in the hospital. Its main responsibility is to ensure patient safety during surgery.

Anesthesiologists are physician specialists and essential members of the surgical team. These physicians ensure comfort and safety during surgery and make informed medical judgments regarding critical life functions, such as breathing, heart rate, and blood. Anesthesiologists also immediately diagnose and treat medical problems that arise during surgery or recovery.

The Department of Anesthesia at Mbeya Consultant Hospital has qualified anesthesiologists on hand for every surgery.

Other functions of the department include:

Resuscitation of critically ill patients and emergencies (ICU)
Ensure safey of Mother & Child during caesarian operations
Collaborate with Internal Medicine Department during haemo dialysis procedures in renal failure cases.
